Photos of Fairwater Comprehensive School in Cwmbran

Reading this story in yesterday’s South Wales Argus made me a bit nostalgic. The thought of your old school closing makes you think a lot about your classmates. Last Friday I bumped into an old mate who I had not seen for about 15 years.

He has just left the army whereas as I have been at a desk for all that time.

We played rugby together for the school team. Those cold and wet matches up and down the valley will always remain one of the best times of my life.

The last time the school featured on this blog was when a maths teacher appeared on X Factor.

Anyway I just popped up Fairwater comprehensive (I still have trouble calling it a ‘High’ school) school for a walk and took these photos. There are about 40.

If you know the school I hope they give you a few smiles.

  1. School day memories live forever, don’t they? Reminds of the sadness I felt at hearing that my old school, the Girls’ County in Pontypool, was closing and subsequently torn down. I did get to have one last look around before its demolition – so many memories, mostly good ones I have to say. That’s the price of progress.
